Drive shaft Woe's.....

Well for the last couple of days I have been hearing a "popping" noise under the Ol'Jeeper. Well my fears were confirmed today...the double cardan joint has went south. Where would be the best place to get a new shaft CHEAP? I can have this one rebuilt around here for about $200...but another 8K miles later ....I'm right back where I started. I really need a high angle shaft since I have 4.75" of suspension lift. I "ASSUMED"'(and we all know where that gets us) that when the Off Road Shop that did my lift and SYE and had the shaft made would have put a High Angle shaft on since everyone knows it is recomended with lifts of 4"+. BUT NNOOOOOOO!

So I had to drive home in "front wheel drve" today.....

Any Ideas?

is it just a stock shaft, or does it have a double cardan joint at the top like any shaft with an sye set up? i have 7 inches of lift (suspension), a tucked drivetrain, and run a an sye and double cardan shaft with no problems. take the spicer part numbers from the cv joint it self, use the cross reference in the back of the advance auto parts book, and get a few new parts and put it together yourself. you dont need to have it rebuilt, its really not that hard of a procedure to do. just press out the u joints systematically and take the the joint apart. find out which pieces are trash and get new ones.

Tom Woods makes a good shaft, it's what I use paired with an SYE and 6" lift... www.4xshaft.com

There is another place that is out in Cali... forgot the name. They make beefy shafts but are more expensive than Tom Woods

Tom Woods is the best in my opinion.which i know dont count 4 much,but i have 8'' of lift and SYE.i have no problems with mine.

You might try the IRS. Every time I deal with them I get the shaft.urple:

When you rebuild the CV, look for a servicable centering cup (grease zerk). I may be able to get you a part # or link to one if you need it. May make the shaft last longer, hehe.
