I remember reading a post last year some time on replacing the heater blower motor with one from a Chevy Blazer. Just wondering if anyone here has done this and how hard was it to do? Did you have to do any cutting or modifying of the anything to make it fit? If anyone has done it here, please list any problems you ran into. Thanks.

Hello Craig,

Try the following hyper-link for a web article on the Blazer heater blower motor mod:

I have noticed though that sometimes after completing the Blazer heater motor mod, people next post questions about upgrading the CJ alternator.

Winter life being what it is, when one most needs a good heater, one is traveling amid low-speed traffic and also needing headlights and windshield wipers.

Evidently, the already marginal Jeep CJ electrical system tends to go into overload when burdened with the added current draw of the Blazer heater motor.

You can also mod the YJ to block the fresh air intake, so the heater only uses recycled warm air. Something for you all in colder climates to consider.

Bounty, Where and how do you modify the yj heater to use only inside warm air???

I would strongly urge against modifying the interior heating system of a vehicle such that it will only recirculate interior air. Doing so would greatly increase the odds of the driver and any passengers becoming ill and/or dying of carbon monoxide poisoning.

I see your point but it couldn't be all that bad or vehicle manufacturers wouldn't put it stock in new vehicles....although it could be worse since it is a jeep. If everyone else's is anything like mine, you get the occasional exhaust smell. Could have something to do with the fact I cut my tailpipe short because I keep smashing it closed off road.
