Death wooble

I have a 92 jeep cherokee sport that i just put a 3 inch rc lift on and got a alignment done yesterday but still shakes like crazy when i hit 45 mph does anyone have any idea what it is and how i can fix it. Thanks alot

Here's a great test. Have someone start the Jeep and man the helm. OK, someone you trust to keep it out of gear and their foot firmly on the brake :)

Now, you go lay down in front of the Jeep. Focus on the bolt that goes through the bushing where the track bar mounts in the bracket there on the passenger side.

Now have your driver rock the wheel back and forth. Not a lot, just like:

2 - 10 - 2 - 10 - 2 - 10

As you watch that bolt, does it move at all? Does the front of it stay in place, but the back moves? Does the bushing give noticeably before "catching" and then shifting the Jeep?

If any of that is happening, then the BACK side of the bolt hole is likely no longer circular or the bushing is just plain worn out. This happens often on TJs and XJs. Tragic flaw. Once that happens, the trackbar no longer has a good stiff mount and even that little amount of give is enough to translate upstream and cause death wobble.

Good luck!

Thanks i will try that i have a friend that told me to rotate my tires too and he told me that i will prob need a new track bar so i guess i will have to try that thanks alot man thats some good info

Do you thank that if my tires were not balanced right it could cause that too or just the track bar?

It's possible that your tires aren't balanced, and moving the front ones to the back should help to point this out.

Keep in mind though that unbalanced tires will just help death wobble to start. You need some other worn / mis-adjusted part in order for it build into true death wobble. Your truck is about 20 years old, chances are that there are plenty of worn bushings that have the chance to move around.

Ok thanks just wondering cause i just dont wont to fix something then its not it then have to spend more money on something else and so on but thanks for the advice i will see about geting that track bar replaced thanks bro

go back and check that everything is tight it s called process of elimination all it takes is one bolt to be loose and it opens a big can of worms
I have fixed many a jeep that the owners thought they could do a lift themselves to save money, most of the time it costs more if you do it yourself , than if a shop did the work reason is if there is a issue the shop will repair it with no extra charge, if you bring it to a shop to find and correct your mistakes it will cost almost double ,

what I am saying what seems easy isn't always the way it turns out

good luck finding your issues search death wobble there is many write ups about it here on this site

I had DW which was solved after replacing my control arms bushings (upper and lower) and the steering stabilizer.
Check your control arms...
