Death wobble at 40mh

Ok so I was out on a trail the other day and hit a hole pretty hard, she rolled fine for the rest of the trail but when I go back out on the highway she started like hell at about 40mph. Me and a buddy took the dust caps off the front hubs and the bolts on both sides were loose, so we tightened them up like they should be, drove it down the highway and still got the death wobble. Anybody else had these problems? Ball joints? track bar? tie rod? Appreciate the help yall!

Use the forum's search function to search 'death wobble', tons out there.

The nuts you tightened don't do much to prevent death wobble, although being loose they may lead to increased wear on the hub assembly.

Hey thanks man, I checked out the other threads and I think it might be my shocks, when I push on the front end they respond very slowly. So I plan on picking up a cheap pair of shocks on payday just to see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the help!

It might be your shocks... but I'd check to see if maybe hitting that hole caused some damage to the track bar mounts, the tie rods, control arms, or anywhere on the steering knuckle. Check to make sure your tires are balanced, and the Jeep is still in alignment as well.

With Death Wobble, you can find a lot of parts that are worn out, and when you replace them you may notice that it gets better, but doesn't fix it. Eventually you end up replacing every steering, and suspension component you can find that's even remotely worn out until you find the problem... Good luck.

I have had many Jeeps that have developed this problem.
Usually the Stabilizer Cylinder is worn, and replacing it with a "Good Quality" shock will make the problem go away.

Steering stabilizers only hide the problems. I haven't run one in a while and it rides fine. They are there to make the ride a bit more cushy. If you hit a big hole you could have bent or warped a wheel. Like stated above check alignment, wheel balance and they start looking a parts like tie rod ends. Also check if the track bar is loose or tie rod bent.
