dash board removal

I have a 99 cherokee classic that came without the cd player. I have the factory replacement cd player that should be in this jeep. I was wondering what the best way to remove the front dash plate to get at the old radio to replace it with the cd player. THere are no visible screws any where, and I don't want to break anything!!

The whole piece is held in by spring clips. The heat/ac vents at the top along with the trim all the way around the radio, heater controls, and the 12V outlets are all one piece. Gently pop it out and you're done.

Hi,

The XJ dash is a known pain in the a$$ to work with being that it's all one piece. Not to mention it's always a fight to get it around the steering column. The older (pre '97) cherokees' dash panel had screws above the headlamp switch, cig. lighter, speedometer area, "BRAKE" light area, and spring clips at the bottom to hold it in place. Yours probably is all spring clips though.
