Upper control arm problems

so im done w/ my lift, now im saving upf ro a dana 44 swap in. I found a place that will install a dana 44 w/ 4.88 gears and a limited slip for about 2 grand. w/ the detroit its almost three grand. My question is, is this a good price for the axle and install? its a rebuilt axle so...i guess thats y its so cheap but still only 3 grand for a d44 installed is nice price i think

no... they are bending you over and giving it to you up the arse... you can get a danatrac 60 for not much more than that, and a reg ole d60 MUCH cheaper

problem after problem

actually i already priced a dynatrac 60...shipped like 6 thousand, ive looked everywhere...or would it be cheaper to buy a blank rear end and piece together an axle?

3 grand for a rebuilt axle? you better bring the KY jelly with you, thats nuts, the gears locker and axles might cost u alittle over 1100 and probably another 500 to have someone install them, i cant see how it can cost 3k to do an install like that....

Find a junkyard D44 for $200 and have it rebuilt, installing new bearings and regearing if necessary. Easily under $1000. Two axles will likely be under $1500.

its hard 2 find a d44 w/ coil perches...there are hundreds around here w/ leaf perches its 2 ahrd 2 fab these coil perches onto tehse so im gonan buy a empy 44 rear and stuff it all in there how much do you think thats gonna run me?

you can buy pearches, or cut them off something else, and weld them to your new axle, or if your cant or dont trust your welding have someone weld it for you

Clutch adjustment???

if you are going with full size axles the front dana 44 from a ford f-150 comes with coil perchs that are bolted on. i dont know if you can move them in to work with a jeep application or even if they will work with your coils but it is something to think about/check out. the better of the dana 44 front ends can be found in 3\4 ton fords.f-250(like mine :D it was a real lucky find) (i thinck the year to look for is 1978 or 1979..not entirerly sure tho.) they uses spring perchs and have a soild tube running the lenth of the axle. the coil sprung dana 44 has a fuild resivor or somthing on the driver side that stickes out quite a ways and does not have a soild inner tube running the lenght of each side.

I found mine out of an XJ with the same WMS and lug pattern as a YJ for 400 bucks at a junkyard. I did have to replace the brakes, carrier and the gears... The whole thing cost me under 1k. You can get it done even cheaper but I went a little overboard than I originally planned.

Just PEACHY!!! Saddam.... this really makes you think!

Don't some Grand C's have Dana 44 rears? I know they have coil buckets.
Just for laughs did you call to see how much the dealership wants for a Rubicon rear? The gearing won't be right but you may be able to use that electric locker. I bet it's less than Dynatrac.

redrooster,

yea... but they use aluminum center secttions and use a slightly diffrent ring/pinion

Or when you get tires of dragging that low hanging boat anchor over everything

i read an artical in a jeep mag that said you can cut the bottom lip off a 14 bolt and get an extra 1-1 and a half without any strenght loss. i guess the lip is just unnessary material in the casting. something to check into if your running that rear-end.

You're right it does drag occassionally even after I ground the lip off of the bottom. Most of the time you can back up and bump it to get over. It's worth it to be able to run 39.5" cut Boggers without fear of trashing the rear end. Plus the pinion length is about the same as a Dana 44. Which means the driveshaft doesn't get shorter like with a Dana 60, 70 or 80.
The best part of the whole deal is that it was only $500 with a Detroit Locker and 4.56's already in it.
I wish I had bought it before I went through the factory rear end and two Scout 44 rears.
