dana 35 question

well I blew my spider gears and I had the factory limit slip the only spider gear replacments we had on the trail wouldnt allow my pin to fit so we used the smaller pin from a regular open carrier
I limp home and the next day I put my lockright in I bought it off of ebay a while ago brand new and in stalled in a dana 35 carrier I put it in shimed the ring and pinion the wierd part is that the little 12pt nut that you unscrew was not there and in its place was the pin that you drive out like on the dana 30. I put it in slid the axles back in slid the c clips in and thought I was done. Major problem the axles had 1/4 of an inch of play back and forth. It seemed that the position of the c clip was very close to the end and didnt allow the axle to be pushed right up against the pin. I figured it was because the positioning is different because I had the limit slip. All those clutch plates need more room. I was up a creek because I new the axle shafts would go in and out and allow the c clip to fall out and there go the wheel. I thought really hard and I welded 1/4 pieces of stainless steel onto the ends of the shafts It worked. My question is did I actuallly sqeeze a dana 30 carrier and lockright into a dana 35 or are the c clip positions different on a limit slip axle I am really confused.

Dude that sucks. Try to identify the carrier. Did you question the person you bought it on ebay from??

I don't think the c clips would have a different position, otherwise we'd have heard about that problem on here before. Hmmmmmm wierd.

The axle shafts and c-clip location will be the same regardless of the diff type. Never seen a D35 without the 12pt bolt holding the center pin in place. Maybe you've got a carrier from an early (pre '90) D35 that doesn't have c-clips, hence different tolerances not allowing the c-clips to be in the proper location.

does that mean the lockright wouldnt fit in a newer style carrier That seems right because I was wondering why the 12pt wasnt there I will have to remove the bearing retainer just to get at an angle to drive that pin out. I quess I just did one of the biggest nig rig on a jeep ever
