Hello,
First of al i hope you can read my english
I guess its a litlle stange,but thats because i,m from the netherlands.

Ik own a grand cherokee ZJ 4.0 1997
Now i would like to know your opinion on something.
Is it wise to exchange my CPS (crankshaft) even its not broke.
I drive alot with a horse trailer and it would be a nightmare when my jeep left me standing with a broke CPS.
I do not have any problems with it at this moment,but i read al lot of problems with it,and all of them came out of the blue.
I have ordered a cps from the states (and recieved it) Thats another question i have.i bought the *cheap* version (delco) Was that a smart move??
So that all for now i guess.
I hope to get some info from you all.

Welcome to Jeepz.
I'd leave it alone. If it's not broke, don't fix it. I wouldn't worry about the price variation between manufacturers so much as they would and can outlast the expensive competitors. One thing to consider is the comparison of the sensor in a physical perspective. The lenght of the sensor, connector pinouts and thickness is to be concerned about. The AIRGAP between the sensor and the tone ring makes a big difference in the performance of that component. Too close to the tone ring may damage the sensor prematurely, too far may cause an erroneous misfire.

i just looked up the other CPS and there is just a little amont difference between them.
The ACDELCO is 29.79
Airtex 5S1807 is 33.79
and the standard motor product PC176 is 36.79


So i gues there is no real difference between them.

But any idea what causes the CPS to malfunction (just curious)

Open short, short to ground or short to voltage. All of which i've seen happen. Replacement aftermarket sensors also tend to have a slight variation on the spacing between the sensor surface and the tone wheel, so pay close attention when comparing the old sensor to the new one.
