Last year I did an MoPar igniton upgrade and switched to the bigger Ford cap, in my 90 YJ in line six. Kept the BBD, just did a good cleaning and gasket replacement.
Good for a whole bunch of horses and top end speed. Also quiets the idle. And can be changed back to original configuration, for smog tests, pretty quick (like half an hour). I also like the idea, of having two seperate igniton systems, piggybacked. An extra distributor, cap, pickup and coil in the old tool box and you´ve just about got the whole works double.
Remove all the plugs, do a compression test, cranking each cylinde for at least 8-10 seconds or so. Usually ends up about 150. I always check for consistancy more than pressure. Mo Par says under 105 is time for a rebuild, Jeep says 120 in some books.
My 4.0 (last week in the XJ) tested out to between 135-150, most cylinders about 140. My gauge is pretty old.[addsig]
