Colorado trip

OK, as was previously mentioned in a hijacked thread (sorry, Saurian), the muds recently spent a few days in Colorado visiting family. Thought I'd share a few pics:

The Kansas fields I was telling Sparky about (from the plane).....seems like a lot of wasted space!?!:

First stop was at RedRocks......GREAT place!!!!!!.....Most musicians dream of playing Carnegie Hall - I dream of playing RedRocks!!!!! This is just a pic of a little tunnel on the way in:

Finally got to the house.........mudwoman and I "posing"   ....Quite a view - I'm envious:

The Dillon reservoir........remember the spot at the top center of the pic.....more to come:

So........being the muds, we couldn't leave Colorado without doing a little muddin'! Unfortunately, we weren't in our Jeeps.....tried it in a Ford F-250.............ooops!!:

Ben couldn't get 'er out on his own:

Toyota Tundra to the rescue:confused: :

AAHHHH!!!! The Calvary!!!!!!...........oooppps!!:

The "gang" having a good laugh once the "real" calvary arrived:

The ruts:

Finally OUT!!!!!:

And, of course, the aftermath..............notice how much help I am???:

By the time it was all over with, we actually had 3 wreckers down there, not including the roll-back that had to be pulled out. Everyone was having a good laugh, as you can imagine. I don't think these Colorado folks are used to getting stuck in the mud. One guy actually pulled out several ratchet straps thinking those would help get this behemoth out of the mud. Needless to say, he'll be buying some new ones!!!

Last day we went up to the Continental Divide...........Beautiful!!!!!:

This "hole" is about 30-40 ft. deep!!!:

And I would love to see this action:

And, of course, we couldn't leave Colorado without a token gift. My new addition to the Jeep...........Thanx, Ben!!!:

Next time, we're takin' the Jeep! And Sparky and Mingez, you're on the way!!!!

Looks like a blast!! So, how much did the three wreckers cost?

My brother and I saw U2 at RedRocks back in the late '80s (the concert they made the video of). We also saw Neil Young at Fiddler on the Green, another awesome outdoor venue in Colorado.

I don't think those were center pivot irrigation rigs you were looking at in the first picture....I believe you had some smutz on the lens and were taking a picture of a game of checkers......looks like you were losing, too!! Seriously, though, there's really not as much wasted space as you might think. Most farmers plant different crops in the "corners" of those fields to utilize every square inch. However, it's been a severe drought in that part of the state for several years now, and it's almost gotten back to "dust bowl" conditions. Each of those circles is a quarter mile across, meaning there are four of them per mile. Some systems now are big enough to cover the full square mile!

Next time you go, let me know, and we can plan a trip there together. My brother and I found a little town called "Tin Cup" (an old ghost town) that has an authorized 4wd trail leading up over the continental divide. We were in his '92 Corsica, so we didn't make the run, but I can still remember the sound of the engines whining in 4-lo, tires chirping, and metal scraping on rock!

CO is an amazing place. I would recommend everyone get there at some point in their life. I will be back out somtime this summer.

Yeah, that was my first question. If we had to call out three wreckers here, I would not be laughing, rather crying, those guys get big bucks around here.

The roll-back that got stuck was going to do it for $50 - guy didn't really work for the company and was on his way to another call.....and obviously didn't really know what he was doing. When the others showed up to pull him out, they first quoted us $300, then $200 + $1/ft. of cable (would've been close to the same), but Ben finally talked 'em down to $100 - pretty cheap, I think, considering........................................

Hahahah. You're crazy Mud. I wish I could have met up with you all, but you came during finals week. Oh well.

Next time tho, it's ON!!!

Isn't Red Rocks cool? I'm going to see Steely Dan With Michael McDonald there in June, and this month is Robert Randolph and Black Crowes. De La Soul should be coming in August (can't wait for that one)

I love that place, and to see a concert there in the summer is Crazy. It's almost too much stimulation to soak in.

Here are some of my pics from this winter:

Pic really don't do this place justice. It's very surreal once you step in there.

Yeah, don't I remember a story about you and Mrs. Mud's first outing together where she lost a shoe in the mud? History repeats itself!!:p

Sparky, you must be thinking of this incident (VERY good memory, BTW):

image-missing.png

She didn't lose a shoe (she was barefoot), but she did cut her foot. My Jeep was six days old and I was (am) an idiot and got stuck in a mudhole. Didn't realize at the time that un-locked four wheel drive is actually two wheel drive (one front, one back). I asked her to look out her side and see if the front tire was spinning and the I gassed it. Needless to say, she got a faceful and I thought (after having just met her), OH ****!!!!!!! But she turned to me laughing her arse off and I had an epiphany. The rest is history.

Yo Mud you know...if you roll past Denver a few extra feet you will catch that down hill run right into Utah...

We have places that those Rocky Mountain fence sitters only dream about.
