Coensiding with laniac's thread.....

Hey guys! I didn't want to hi-jack laniac's thread, but I'm having an oil issue as well. 4.0 with an AX-15. When I start the jeep the pressure is somewhere around 60 psi. With about 5-10 minutes of driving it drops to 10-20 psi. I know it's normal to have a pressure drop due to the oil heating up, but here's where I get nervous. After 10 or so minutes the pressure bounces around 2-15 psi. When at idle it's at 2 and when I rev up at a standstill it can jump up to 15-20 psi at just over 1k RPM's. I've already changed the oil sending unit and it didn't seem to change anything. What's next? I'm assuming it's a toss up between the oil pump and the cam shaft bearings. :( I'm not going to rule out the gauge...but it seems like an unlikely culpreit. Thanks!

I had a problem similar to this with my old truck(7 chevy). I pulled the motor and new sending unit, new pick up pump and everything, still only like 5 psi so... pulled the gauge, put in a aftermarket, everything was all right. It was the guage the whole time. kept reading th ewrong resistance.

Few random YJ things

I would say buy a manual gauge. They cost about $15 and that will tell you for sure. When I swapped engines in my CJ the guage didn't work afterwards. It would come up to about 1 psi after starting the engine. I changed the sending unit and the wiring and still nothing. I was about to replace the oil pump when I though why not try the gauge for the 15 bucks. I hooked it up an started up the engine and it went right up to 50 psi.

Mechanical gauge is easy. Just buy one, pull out your electrical sender, put the new fitting in the sender port, mount your gauge and run your line to it. The only thing electrical you need to do is put in the lightbulb.
