Been fixing up and tinkering with my new toy 89 yj every day now Since i got it couple weeks ago i think I'm obsessed lol. Anyway i got this great idea to cut all the weatherd looking padding off my bars and now my hard top won't fit! !!!!!! Guess I'm an idiot! I love the look without the pads. Any advice what the heck to do? Any other options other than buyin new padding? Thank you!!!

The padding on a YJ doesn't touch the hardtop anywhere. Where exactly is your problem?

Was teh top on it when you bought it? Post pics of where it doesn't fit.

I'm wondering if you have the correct top if it wasn't on there before.

Every year when I take my YJ top off it never goes on quite like it should, always need to fight it one way or another.

Okay guys thanks a bunch! Like i said is my very first jeep and i have no idea what I'm doing yet lol. It was first time i had top off guess i just did something wrong putting it back on il try again
It fit fine before i took itoff. Other than top of door rubbng way to hard against top when you close door. Any easy fix for that problem, ? Thank you. Everyone!

Try loosening the top bolts and manhandling the top into the right position... Sounds like you just need to move it a notch.

something is wrong with your top then, unless you have the wrong bar in. do you have a speaker bar attached to your roll cage?

post a pic of your cage and your top

Doesn't make sense. Taking the padding off the roll bar would give you more clearance not less. Something has changed.

I did
Figure out the pads had nothing to do with it. Was opperater error lol. But its on right now and the top of both doors rub top. I lossened connection brackets and they still rub. Mine is a split hard top

Evidently one that doesn't fit your jeep properly.

The top is in two pieces. Front Part starts couple inches behind back of doors. Back half starts there and goes back. So top of doors are rubbing front section of top
Its tearing top of doors up as well as that part of top.

What is a split hard top?

I think he means a targa top...

OK, install the rear part, and make sure it is well aligned. Bolts should fall right onto the holes; if you have to bang on them, it's not centered right. When you install the front part, tighten first the rear part (the one that connects to the rear shell of the top), and THEN the front...

Okay. Thank! There are no bolts anywhere holding it on though
Just 4 brackets on back half and 4 more on front piece. Il try tightening back ones first and see if it makes a difference. I have no idea how to put a pic on here
