clocking dana 300

The transfer case adapter I ordered to mate my dana 300 to my NV3550 allows me to clock the t-case at different heights. What's the highest I can clock the t-case w/o cutting the floor or doing a body lift, and what would I need to do to be able to use a flat skid plate/cross member? I don't have the drivetrain in the Jeep right now, so knowing where to cut and how much would be a challenge for me. I need a new crossmember/skid plate, and am thinking of making one out of 3/16" steel braced with 1" rectangular steel tube. I'd really like to not do a body lift.

TONS of Jeep and 4x4 stuff, CJ7, postal Jeep, Cherokee

You will need to cut out the floor if you want to fit a flat skid plate without a body lift. And I mean cut cut cut! I did mine with a 1 inch body lift and it was really tight. It is recomended at least a 2 inch body lift if you want to clock the tcase till its flush with the frame. My adaptor ring had 3 different angles to clock the tcase at. I clocked mine as far as I could and cut the crap out of my floor. I had to fab a new seat mount the one that goes right over the tcase. And my seat literally sits on the tcase at least the bolt holding the seat down touches the tcase. I think the 1st angle is the one you would have to go with if you dont want to hack out your floor.

I covered up the hole with sheet metal and braced it from underneath. Here is where my tcase was hitting

It was some kind of tub brace I thought. I cut it out so I could fit the tcase but by cutting it I lost my front left seat bolt hole. Took me a while to finish the whole thing but it came out great. Major pain in the butt but I gained alot of clearance! Fabbing the new tcase/transmission mount was pretty tough. I also did a 1 inch motor mount lift to help my driveshaft angle. You will see when stuff comes up but there is alot of fab work to be done. If you dont mind your jeep being down for awhile go for it. It is a killer mod and I never get stuck on the tcase anymore.

Have fun!

RE: axle piece

Dang, Sully, that looks great!! Got any pics of the skid now that you've leveled off a few rocks? How is it holding up?

Sully,

Can you send or post some pics of your 1" MML???

I still have the 258 in an 85CJ7 with the M.O.R.E. bomb proofs and I'm think of ways
to raise the drivetrain for a flat belly.

Thanks
Sam

Yea I will get some pics. But you should know that I am still having trouble with driveshaft vibrations because the angle is so steep even with a cv. I am concidering a high pinion 9 inch rear axleto help reduce the steepness. This stuff is expensive and takes alot of time to work out all the bugs just a warning.

Driveshaft issues prevented me from clocking my Atlas flat as well. I was afraid it would bind the front shaft.
