Hi fellas,

I have a two fold problem....

My battery drains after a couple days of not turning it on, and...

...the engine just dies as we're driving down the road.

I have gas.

New fuel pump.

new fuel filter.

I took out my alternator and went to advanced auto, and it checked out.

Any suggestions? I tried to check my fuses, but have no idea where it
is! <--embarrassing!

I'm still a novice, so please be gentle with the terminology....

Thanks!

Does it die because of the battery? Tried having the battery replaced? When it dies and you try to start it back up does it crank like the battery is still holding a good charge or is it weak?

The battery doesn't do anything but crank it. Does it seen to die after its running awhile? As far as the battery drain, not sure which type of solenoid you have I could have a short in it draining the battery.

Yes to both of you...

It does die while driving down the road. How can I tell you what sort of solenoid I have? Is there a way to tell if it's bad? Should I post a pic?

Battery is brand new. Auto Zone charged it and held a good charge. As I'm driving, it'll die,...zero RPM on my tach, and it'll crank right up after a turn of the key, and I'll continue down the road.

I'm thinking of the coil possibly being the problem,or the little chip in your distributor, I think they call it an ignition moduler, It's been known to make a vechicle do funny things.

When it dies do you loose all power to the accessories?
Is this on your "75? If so is the ignition switch on your dash or on the column?
I'm thinking maybe a short/open,loose contact in your ignition switch. Just a thought.

I agree. I just went through the same problem with my73 cj5. If ignition switch had a short n it and would drain my battery if I let it sit to long. I could turn my key to the off position and the amp gauge would still read the juice n my battery.

Is there a way to pull out this "ignition moduler" and tell if it's busted? Burn marks? Cracks?

I'll post a pic of my dash board. (don't laugh too hard) I have almost no accessories.
This is in my '75.
My ignition switch is on my dash. Is there a way to tell it the ignition switch/assembly is the culprit?
Thanks!

Those ignitions are pretty simple and really inexpensive. Does you amp gauge work? If so turn your key to the off position and see if it still reads the battery's amps. If you have a battery (load) tester you can hook it to your battery and see if your still drawing power with ignition off. Some of those ignitions have no ground wire so they use the metal dash as ground. Bad connections cause shorts. Go buy another switch (8 bucks) and start there.
