CJ? YJ? Springs

Since all of you were saying YJ springs were bigger, I looked at my CJ the rear springs are Wider than the front. So have they been converted or are they just wider on the CJs?

Your's is probably all stock, the CJ rear springs are wider than the front, 2.5" total width. YJ's are 2.5" all the way around.

my friend's rear cj5 springs are narrower than my yj springs

Early CJ's have skinny springs all the way around, before switching to wider springs in the rear on newer CJ's. Don't know the cutoff years.

might have been when they started with the cj7... just a guess
