cherokee sport rust inside motor?

My sister just got a 2000 cherokee sport with under 60.000 miles on it and has been driving it for a week or so the check engine light came on and it chugged at the same time now the light stays on runs fine and no more chugging so she took it into the dealer so thay could look at it thay told her that it has rust in the motor and the engine needs to be replaced and it will cost her $4500 to fix it and did not tell her what the code was....Any body ever herd of such a thing im not a master mechanic but i have rebuilded a few motors so im calling BS..

I agree. That's BS. I've never heard of such diagnosis. I have seen many engine blocks that has rusty coolant due to the leftover casting sand and metals in the engine block's cooling system but never was a warrant for an engine replacement, if anything else, flush the engine block by removing all the freeze plugs on the side of the block and run a high enough pressure water nozzle into the freeze plug holes to push the gunk out until the water clears up. After that, replace the freeze plugs with a brass replacement.

Yeah I agree with Steel man, thats total BS! Maybe a little rust colored coolant but not so much so that the engine needs to be replaced, they're tryin to milk your sister for money. And if they meant there was rust in the internal engine parts then I doubt the engine would even be running do to so much friction. Probably a good flush like Steel said, get the old particles and gunk out of the coolant paths and it will probably be fine.
