checking for sagging springs

While under the Jeep today, I noticed there was only 1" clearance between the front axle and the front bumpstops. There had been a lot of contact as the axle directly below the bumpstop was pretty clean. Now pavement is not that rough around here so it begs the question ... are the springs worn out?

Also, there is 3" between the rear axle and the rear bumpstops.

I don't know if they are completely worn out, but at that age they definately would be fatigued.

Sounds like a great excuse to lift the Jeep with a nice new suspension!

yeah it sounds like they are sagging..i know when i took off my original springs not too long ago there was at least 3 inches b/t bumpstop and axle

and when someone thinks about getting a suspention i always have to say dont cheap out and never buy rough country

Doesn't sound to bad to me. Is there a negative arch to the front springs?

No, Bounty Hunter, there does not appear to be a negative arch ... but very flat. Most research I've done has indicated not to expect much arch and the flatter, the better flexing. That was why I was so surprised to see such a small amount of upward movement available.

I just got back from a 1200 mile trip in the YJ and was checking a couple of things out when I noticed the bumpstop/axle gap.

I wouldn't worry about it until the axle is resting on the bumpstops.
