Charging issues

I am having this issue on my Jeep GC right now.
1996 Jeep Grande cherokee laredo 6 cylinder
I have replaced the Bat (Advanced Auto said it was bad)
I have had the Alternator tested and it passed (Advanced Auto tested it)
When I have the new Bat in it will run, untill the "check Gages" light comes on and shows 0 volts.
I do not know where to go next.
I have checked all grounds and they seem to be fine.

Any Ideas??

I had this problem a few years ago on my 98 GC Laredo 5.2l. I replaced both battery and alt at the same time only to have my battery dead in two days. Corrosion was the culprit. My battery terminals corroded so bad that the corrosion followed up the cables into the wiring harness causing all kinds of funky stuff. Jeep would start and run only if the gas was held. Release gas engine would die. Also the engine sounded like it was being choked out during this. Have mechanic check this if you cannot. It is about $230 for the harness. I can't think of anything else that would cause such a thing except "maybe" a faulty ignition but that seems like a stretch.

Re: Possible Alternator Problem?

Yes a low battery could cause sputtering. Regardless you have a charging issue to fix first. As stated above get the battery and alternator load tested off the vehicle. Then check and clean all the connections including the grounds. Poor contacts, esp grounds will cause sputtering, poor charging and other issues.

I would run a check in all the mentioned components. Ultimately, the PCM is the dominant component that commands the battery charging from the alternator. Also, if im not mistaken, there's a battery temp sensor under the battery mounted on the tray. If the sensor is faulty, it may give the PCM a false signal and command the alternator not to charge. Check the connections on this sensor as it is prone to corrosion due to its location.
BTW, i moved this post to a new thread to avoid confusion from the other members post. Welcome to Jeepz Mathew.
