Welcome to the gang! Do you have the radio and anttea both mounted to metal on the Jeep. If it is mounted to plastic it is not grounded! this could be the cause. Take it to any Truck stop ot CB shop and they can tweek it toot sweet! And it will be cheap! Good Luck Tug :-D [addsig]

Just run a ground wire from the cb or the rack mounting screw to a serew that is grounded to the frame somewhere! It shold be ez. Good luck Tug[addsig]

There should be a green or green w/yellow stripe wire on your wiring harness. Put a ring terminal on that wire and screw that wire down to metal. I have mine grounded to the same place my stereo is.

Another thing is where do you have the power coming from? The best run is straight off the battery and make the run as short as possible. You can also try sheilding it with some type of metal or possibly foil. Also if someting is going bad in your ignition system or even if you have a bad plug wire it will also cause engine noise in a radio. Just a couple more things you can look at.

r u running platnuim plugs.. if so you can get engine noise from the ignition... something to do with the fuel ingection system... i'm not blowing smoke.. this has happened to me... put resitor plugs back in and the noise went away... if not change your ground...[addsig]

Like Jeepin Madness said, a hook up straight to the battery is a good place to start (and recommended by most manufacturers)(Battery acts like a giant condensor). Noise suppression kits can also help, but are often set up for specific RF frequencies, if you get one, that doesn´t filter the frequency your vehicle is generating, you´ve waisted some money (radio has it´s own filters). Ground is also a good bet and also putting as much distance and/or metal between the source and the antenna is also preferable. Generally speaking, it sometimes requires all of the above to do away with the noise. Good shielded and grounded, antenna wire and connectors and not laying the antenna wire in loops helps.
Filter kits that hook up straight to the ignition or the alternator, are to be avoided, if they fail, so does what they are hooked up to, sometimes.

Have someone in the know, set up your SWR (standing wave ratio) for you, helps the CB to last longer and is required with most guarantees (keep the reciept).

Read the book, play with the squelch and have fun :-D

I used one of those adapters that you snap around dual spade type fuse. then attached the power wire to that. Then like I said earlier, it's grounded to the same spot as the radio.[addsig]
