carb question

Hi guys I'm still looking for answers, this time I need info on carbs. I have a cater 7408S carb on my 232 I-6 '74 mail jeep. Can't find a rebuild kit, so I was wondering what I could replace it with. right now I'm getting about 10 mpg so I really need to do something about that. Jeep runs fine it just burns way to much fuel. Any info badly needed. Thanks, Joe

You might be able to just clean it out really well with a very tiny wire (like a 11 gauge guitar string), carb cleaner, and a Dremel with a mini wire wheel. A lot of times, the jets and other little holes get gelled up.

If all else fails and you can not find a rebuild kit, you could get a two barrel intake and just use a Carter two barrel or Motorcraft 2100. I've seen whole intake setups on ebay with the Carter carb sell very cheaply.
