hello everybody,

i just bought my jeep so i'm fixing here up whit new oil, filters and also

repairing stuff that's broken.(jeah, jeah she's keeping me busy)

anyway,my front cardan was no problem but my rear cardan is.

it's bolted with so called ''torque bolts''(bolts with little stars in it),wich are stuck.

i don't mean stuck but realy stuck(it's a jeep thing isn't it?).

does anyone got a good advice to get them loose,thanks.....

ps.the oil of the front cardan was so old it turned in to some sort of grease, now is that old or what?and she is running just fine.JEEPS RULE!!!!!

I think that you mean torx bolts.

I'd suggest:

1. buying a really good set of torx

2. putting some penetrating lube (pb blaster) on the bolts for a couple of days beforehand.

3. I can't remember the name of the stuff, but I bought some liquid (craftsman brand) that would increase friction, and make the head of the torx stick better.

4. Use a pry bar to give you more leverage on your socket wrench.

Hey DUDE,

Sometimes you can hit the bolt with a small hammer and it will seat the rust in the threads, or create a slight opening for penetrating oil. It will also close the Torx heads in so that your bit might grip better. Don't hit it too much or too hard or you'll never get the driver back in there. It's ok if you have to tap the driver in there. I've heard of people using grinding compound or sandpaper to make a screwdriver bite a screwhead better. You might try it. As a last resort or my first, I usually weld a hex nut over the bolt head to remove it . Depending on where it is located ( near gas, wet oil, etc.), I will TIG ,or stick weld it. Mig won't work. If you can use a 680 or Stainless rod with high shear strength. I do this all the time in my machine shop especially when guys break off taps in an expensive part.

Hope this helps,

Jackal
