I have a stock YJ, 91 model. I bought it in July and have had to put 2 U-joints on the rear diff.

Someone suggested a shim kit on the rear axle to get a better angle. Why am I having to do this with a stock suspension?

Any advice would be helpfull..........thanks

are the joints worn out when you replace them, or are they broken?

there might be two diffrent problems here, one is just worn out U-Joints and your fixing the old stuff (you didnt say if they were the same ones)
or you might be facing axle wrap due to worn leaf springs and the axle is twisting drawing the drive shaft out of line breaking your U-joints. having a buddy who knows what to look for drive beside you and see what the axle is doing will help you pin point the problem.

Drvieshaft out of balance, any driveline shop can spin it and balance it for you. Check the slipyoke in the rear of the transfer case for slop, try to move it up and down on the output shaft.

I did replace the u-joints both times so I know it's not that.

I'll try getting the driveshaft rebalanced. I am also going to replace the brackets and bolts holding the U-joint to the yoke.

Thanks for the help.
