Blower motor always running (won't turn OFF)

I guess I have the opposite problem from most.... when the Blower Motor Control Switch prevents the fan from running. Even when the vent slider is set to "off", and the fan should be off, my fan keeps running.

Wouldn't be a big issue, but the bearings are starting to go, so I live with a constant squeal.

What is the consensus that the Blower Motor Control Switch, which could be preventing other fans from turning "on", is actually preventing mine from turning "off"?

Any other great ideas? Please help.....This squealling is driving me nuts!

NOTE: I assume that the blower motor is not supposed to run when the vent is off, and fan is at lowest setting...Is is possible that it always runs, and I only notice it now because of the squeal?

Thank

If you take the fan out and put a little oil in it that should stop the noise fans get dry from turning and the air oil should fix that... as for the fan not turning off it may be in the switch?

I noticed that in my 2006 both dials need to be set off for the fan to be completely off.
...But i think you said you tried that already?

Thanks for the follow-up.

Since the blower motor must be accessed from the inside (and requires the dash to be pulled out...), I'll leave my oil can on standby 'til spring.

As far as the switch...the YJ has the slide, not dial, but yes...slide is set to "off". I'm guessing either on/off switch, or fan regulator...

Both are cheap parts. Will update when I crack this open.

Thanks.

Not turning off could be a short on the voltage side of the switch or the resistor block. The blower motor couldn't be pulled out from the firewall in the engine compartment?:???:

I had the same problem, all it took was an adjustment of the cable, cable was stretched and was not pulling it to the off position.
