Belly Up

Somebody explain to me exactly what is accomplished by a motor mount lift. Are you raising the motor to lower the tailshaft of the transmission? Seems like you would go through a lot of transmission mounts that way.

When you do a body lift you can lift the front of the motor and get the fan back in the shroud in the original position and it angles the transfer case yolk down a little to lessen the degree on the u-joint.

After a couple of trips to paragon I started to see why SOA is so much better. No U-bolts or tie plates hanging below the axle and you can install a high steer and elimanate the stupid YJ stering setup. Plenty of lift means everythings out of harms way and allows you to articulate to the max without tires scraping fenders. Big tires.

OK , I'm done with the belly up(nth degree) skid on my TJ. Everything is working perfectly, I did have to raise the motor up 1" because of the fan hitting the shroud. Used the spacer style to keep the stock mounts. I'll take some pictures.

joejeepny, my dad told me to post some pics of his TJ with the belly up.

Joe. Sully was posting pics for me, he's better at the internet :-).Laniac, no way, it gave me 4 more inches of clearance, so the angle got to around 19 degrees, and thats with the SLE type t-case. With a reg TJ 231, the driveshaft angle would be much to steep.

I had my heart set on doing a SOA for years, and just recently ordered my 3.5" springs after deciding against the SOA. I don't need the 5.5"+ of lift the SOA gives, I can still run my 34" tires with the SUA 3.5", 1" BL, and TJ flares. Gotta keep that center of gravity low, and who needs flex when you're locked on both ends.

What kind of 34's are you getting/running? they are a hard to find size!

Swamper has a mean little 34x9.50 TSL.
That's the one I'll be running, it's the Special Service Swamper biasply, with 27/32" tread
