Axle help??!!

This is actually a question for a coworker...he has a 1998 Wrangler 4.0L Sport with a Dana 30 front/Dana 44 rear (3.73 gears both). Here's the problem: When vehicle is engaged in 4 hi or 4 low, the front tires will both lock up then *jump* (does that make any sense??)...the vehicle also has a 4" Skyjacker lift with a 1" spacer. If anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated! Thanks, Patti

well if the gear ratios are the same as the front and all the same tire size it sounds to me that he has teeth missing on the ring or pinion or he has a problem in the spider gears pull the front cover and see if any teeth come out or the oil is full of metal also could be a diff. side brg look at the prior first then look for a bent front axle or housing[addsig]
