How do I determine weather a trans is a ax5 or an ax15?

Most of the time 4 cylinders had AX4/AX5 5spd 1987-2002 22.5" long, 6 cylinders had a BA10/5 5spd1987-1989 Peugeot 24" long. These lengths are trans only, not the bell housing or the transfer case. The AX15 was 1989 to 1999 Wrangler and Cherokee w/6 cylinder. Hope this helps.

Both have a 1" intermediate plate separating the case halves, it's cast iron in the AX5 and aluminum in the AX15. AX5 is behind the 4banger while the AX15 is behind the 6cyl. The AX15 can be found behind the 6cyl in Dodge Dakota's, making a good swap for a 4banger jeep.
