auto seat retract

Greetings: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 Hemi. The driver's seat does not any longer move to memory selected location upon starting engine, nor does it retract upon shutting off engine. The controls on the side of the seat still work. Can anyone please tell me what is the problem with the seat? Thank you.

Read the owners manual. There should be a procedure to re-train the memory seat module for driver 1 and 2. Welcome to Jeepz.
Issue 1
If the customer complaint is "the Driver Easy Exit and Easy Entry" feature is not functioning properly, you should be aware that the "Easy Exit Seat" has a unique characteristic not published in the owners manual. From the end of the seat travel (towards the rear of the car) to 30mm forward the Easy Exit feature will not function. Therefore, if the seat is sitting at 25mm from the rearward end of travel the seat will not reverse. In addition, if the seat is sitting at 55mm from the rearward end of travel, the seat will reverse to the 30mm from end of travel and stop. Therefore, the seat only moved 25mm, much less than the 2.125 inches or 55mm as stated in the owners manual. In order for the seat to move 55mm the starting point of the seat should be at least 85mm from the end of travel.
Issue 2
When attempting to link a key fob by pressing the Memory SET button, then pressing either Memory 1 or 2 (within 5 seconds of pressing SET), then the key fob LOCK button (within 10 seconds of pressing Memory 1 or 2), make sure that the key fob you are trying to link is not in the ignition cylinder.
Issue 3
If a Memory Seat Module gets replaced or reflashed, the driver's seat must be "standardized" (i.e. calibrated). A diagnostic routine is available to perform the standardization procedure. The Memory Seat Module learns the driver seat front stop position when this routine is performed. If this procedure is not completed, the easy exit seat feature will not function.
Issue 4
If a Memory Seat Module gets replaced or reflashed, the initial setting for the easy exit seat feature is off. If operation of this feature is desired by the customer, it must be turned on. This feature can be turned on by accessing the "easy exit seat" item within the "personal settings" menu or by using the appropriate diagnostic command.

Re: auto seat retract/easy exit-easy entry feature

Steelheadz--Thanks for your answer. I tried to re-set the memory as you suggested. Did not work. The easy access or seat memory function is activated according to the menu display on the dash.

We pushed the mem 1 button while the seat was pushed all the way back and the seat moved forward to the memory position so the memory is there, but not working with the key fob.

Could this be part of the problem? We were having problems unlocking the doors with my wife's key fob so I took the battery from my fob and installed it in her fob. Could that loss of power in the key fob mess up something in the key fob?

Thanks for your help.

Very possible.

here is the latest twist to the seat problem. My wife retracted the seat all of the way back before exiting the Jeep. She locked the doors. When she returned to the Jeep she used her fob to unlock the doors and the seat moved from the position it was in when she exited to the memory position. Something is seriously messed up. Another side point maybe related, maybe not. The dash lights will sometimes all blink on and off while driving. Just like when the Jeep first starts. Think I should trade her in for a newer model? (The Jeep, not the wife...But) Can the fob be reflashed by a dealer?

Thanks.

The fob is not programmable but the module in the vehicle is. A dealer can check it for updates and flash it accordingly. Just be prepared to pay them some mooolah. The "blinking" issue on the cluster seems more like an ignition circuit issue. Loose connection or an intermittent short to ground.

Thank you again, Steelheadz, I will let you know if the problem ever gets resolved. I don't feel like shelling out alot of moolah to fix it.
