Anyone using Wheel Spacers?

Is anyone using wheel spacers behind their factory wheels? I just got some TJ Grizzly alloys and they look sweet on my black YJ, but the backspacing is terrible. Anyone use wheel spacers? I'm thinking less than an inch.

I haven't used them, but plan to use 1" spacers as soon as I go higher. They are no more stress on the axles than using wheels with 1" less backspacing.

I think it's a good alternative to get that wider stance and be able to keep the stock wheels. I'm wanting to keep my stock steel 5-spokes because I've never seen a wheel with such great valve stem protection.

Have you shopped around for a set you like?

There are 2 basic types that I've seen. This: http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-wheelspacers.htm
and then the kind that are basically 5-lug washers. The washer type are generally less than 1/2" thick.

I suppose the first ones are more reliable and you don't really want to sacrifice when it comes to the one thing between you and pavement at 65mph.

Shaking when taking off from a stop....

I'd get the first set, less stress on the lugs. They are the ones you want, hub-centric.

From the looks of the pricing, glad I don't own a Rover.

Remember, if you use wheel spacers, you should be able to rotate your lug nuts at least 4 complete turns for them to be safe. I have friends who run the largest wheel distribution center in western Canada and they've had a few guys put spacers on which make the lug bolts too short and the wheel eventually comes right off while driving down the street.

Yeah, I think Craig is talking about the washer type spacer. 4 turns of the lug doesn't seem like much. I could probably put a 1/4" spacer on still get 4 turns out of my lugs.

The kind of wheel spacers that I've seen most often used are similiar to the first kind. They're a plate but it doesn't bolt into place. The plate just fits onto your vehicle over your stock bolts, your bolts slide through it and your wheel still bolts to your same lug bolts which is why they're shorter. With the first ones in that link, they look like they bolt onto the jeep using your stock bolts and then have new bolts for the wheel to bolt onto. If this is the case, I'd think the bolts on your jeep would be too long and have to be shortened or your wheel will hit them. Kind of hard to explain, I hope you know what I mean.
