Anyone here own a popup camper?

I'm kicking around the idea of getting a popup camper, and I wanted to see what you guys think. I've (tent) camped with the wife, and she wasn't big on it, mainly because she was cold the whole time. I'm looking to get something that I can tow behind the Jeep.

Anyone here have a popup? If so, do you use / enjoy it?

Re: Anyone popup camper owners?

I have a friend with 500 acre chunk of land we camp several times a month. A few years back his dad got a pop up so his mom would join them. She did come down sevral times a year instead of just a few. They now have a full trailer that several members of the family went in on and they just leave it there.

A tent and a pop up are very simular when it comes to tempaturebecause of the canvis walls. unless you put a bad ass HVAC unit on top. But its nothing a little spooning can't fix or even a few heavy blankets

If you camp a lot or plan on doing a lot of camping go for it. If not I wouldn't waste my time and $$$ on one (maintainance, registration fees, etc).

I don't personally own one but my uncle does and I have been using it with him and my cousins for the last 10 to 12 years and I love it. It has AC we use two 2000 watt Honda generators to power it. Unless of course there is a plug in on the site. We can comfortably sleep about six, but we usually sleep about 9. It only takes my brother and I 10 to 15 min to pop up. It has two slide out beds and a table that folds down and turns into a bed. When we go camping we only use it for sleeping and it works great. I would defiantly recommend getting one.

I think you should carefully consider the type of camping you want to do...do you want to pull it off road with the Jeep or are you thinking State Park campgrounds....etc....
I've owned 3 different popups over the last 30 years. I currently have a Trailmaster. It is minimalist & actually designed to be pulled by a motorcycle. It has a queen size bed & 6x6 floor space when opened up. It weighs about 300lbs & can carry I think 600lbs..it trails great behind the CJ. I've taken it on 2-track trails many times.
Anyway after you think about the type of use,you might look into renting one for a weekend to see how well it works for you before you spend the bucks. No sense in spending a lot if your wife doesn't like it any more than the tent.

Just to add to that it is a lot like tent camping but like I said we only use it to sleep in and store food in it also creats alot more storage space but when your camping you are supposed to be outside and not indoors

That's a great idea. I'll have to check around and see if there is a rental place nearby. I wouldn't mind seeing how one tows as well.

Re: Anyone popup camper owners?

my parents have one and someone in my family uses it all the time. we just use it for sleeping also though. i think it sleeps 6 or 8 too.

if you have base access, go on one of the military bases near you and rent one from them. they are a lot cheaper that way.

Whats up dude?I actually sell campers and RV's part-time now that I am retired from thePolice Department. My wife and I have been avid RV's for years and currentlyhave a fifth wheel (a little out of the weight range of a jeep), which is whymy second favorite vehicle is my AFE super modified Dodge 2500. If you PM me, Iwill gladly help you out with some ideas.
