Anyone have any experience good/bad with lift blocks on a YJ

Found a buyer for my tires and I'm wanting to go to 33's when I can get all the money together for my spring over, sye kit, cv driveshaft ect. The thing is I don't have the money all together yet and the guy needs the tires right away so I need to find a way to lift my jeep at least 2" temporarily to fit the 33's. A body lift isn't an option since the bolts are so rusted in there they won't budge. I've tried hitting the bolts with a hammer and spraying in about every kind of bolt remover to free the bolts from the rust. I've already snapped one off inside the body and I don't have the time or patience to mess with the rest of them. I live right next to the ocean so they're probably rusted worse than most people's because of the salt in the air. I'm looking for the easiest and cheapest way to lift it at least 2" and I'm thinking about lift blocks inbetween the axle and springs. I'd like to know if anyone here has lift blocks on their jeep and had any bad experiences with them. Will they alter the way the jeep handles or is there not much of a difference? Are they even safe?

If you put blocks in between the axle and springs with it SUA it will lower you I think.

If the leafs are under the axle, blocks will lower the vehicle. You would have to do an SOA first. THen, the only thing you have to worry about is axle wrap, but there are many different solutions for that.

You're right...never even thought of that. I was looking at my friends truck which I now just realized has the springs on top of the axle......It's been a long day I guess I can't think straight!

I completely understand. I often have days like that as well, where I can't even think of the most simple things!!

It's definately been one of those days...I need a vacation.

Haha, its funny you say that. I just got back from a vacation, and now everything is going bad

if SWB jeeps came stock soa.... i believe we'd see a lot more block lifts... it is pretty common in XJs

try a 2"-3" shackle lift it's cheap and easy I paid $60 on ebay for a set of 4, and i was able to clear 33's

Yea, then watch as your handling goes straight down the crapper.

ok, i was suggesting the shakles only as a cheap temporary lift, like you had asked for.
I agree to not leave them in, it would just get you by until you can do a spring over or purchase new springs or whatever.

that's the first sort of lift that went on BBJ... 3" shackle lift.... couldn't drive straight if he was paid to... just enough to hold the 32" tires under the jeep while we prepared for the soa

Full Traction makes a shackle reverse kit that lifts 2". It's relatively inexpensive compared to a suspension lift and will be a much more comfortable ride. That's the best way to do a shackle lift. This will also allow you to remove your front track bar!

I would do a search to find the best price, I just posted that link to show the kit

I already have revolver shackles so I don't really want to pull them off, then have to put them back on again...they were a bit of a pain in the @$# to align the bolt to go through them because they rotate. I've been trying to come up with a way to remove my front trac bar for a while now and have it so my front axles won't shift side to side. You've got me thinking now. Mabye I can do the shackle reversal and install the revolvers on the rear part of the spring on the front. As for a temporary lift, I'm gonna give the body lift one more shot.

I know a cheap way to fit 33's but you won't like it.

SAWZALL baby!

I don't care what you drive, lift blocks very bad!!
Snitty said exactly what I what I was going to say. It was actually my friends Dodge that I was looking at when I came up with the idea of using lift blocks. They can't be all that bad as long as they're not too tall. I think an inch or two wouldn't hurt anything.

they DO add to spring wrap though... one reason that those heavy trucks use them is because their springs are some tough sunz betches and don't wrap easily
