Got an estimate on my brakes today from Hibdon $572.86 just for the rear. You got to be kiddin' me. I picked her up and barely stopped at the parts store and got everthing I needed for $132.52. Divin' in tomorrow any tips on replacing the drums, wheel cylinders, and shoes? On a 86' CJ.

Breath deep take it apart slowly watch how it comes apart and then reverse the deal. Breaks are not thmost tricky thing you will ever have to do to the ol jeep but one of the most important! Good Luck tug

one tool is a must.. a set of brake pliers. this little gems will save you an hours worth of frustration with the springs in drum type od brakes.

as he said... not tough, but important... I HATE drum brakes... after the disc brake was invented, I can't figure out, for the life of myself, why motor companies stayed with drum brakes

one reason is b/c back brakes dont do as much work as the front, and disc brakes arent as good E-brakes as drums

No problem with the brake overhaul, but a word to the wise don't keep your eye on the pliers while stretching the bottom spring, you will put your eye out  . The pliers sliped and went into my eye so far they made my top eyelid go in and stay in. The good news is I got my tehtneus shot updated for future mods.

YA....upgrade to disc...hhehehehehehehe sorry just had to chime in and say that ....Just leave one side together so you can remember how they work...Also they are pretty easy to do good luck....;)

haha.. i gouged the end of my nose pretty good doing that..

as far as the drum/disc... i know that the front brakes are the primary brakes... but that usually is because they are disc, and the rear are not capable of the same stopping... and for the Ebrake, you are right.. it is much easier to incorporate a cable into the drum rather than the disc, but many Ebrakes don't work anyway... but as far as every other factor... disc brakes kick the drum out of the competition

Tubular bumpers

Just make sure you wear some good gloves to protect your hands and go easy on the 4 letter words ....Good luck.....hehehehehehe
