Ok after i installed my lift everything is awesome......except for the steering wheel it sits at a 45 degree angle. my question is if i adjust my tie rod end near the pitman arm, will that fix my problem? i just want to know b4 i tear into this. thanx.

did you get an alignment? You should after installing a lift and they will fix the steering wheel then. There is an adjustment for it,I'm not sure where it is at.

Assuming you used a drop-pitman arm, the steering wheel leaning one way or the other to me is a castor problem. I had that problem when I put on boomerangs. I would check into it first. A couple degree shims (steel, not aluminum) should fix the problem. Besides, you really need to have an alignment shop look it over. You can use a tape measure and string to get a general idea of the alignment conditions, but a shop (one that can handle lifted rigs,<some can't correctly>) needs to do it to be right.

It's not a caster problem, no shims required. The steering wheel being off-center is common after a lift as the axle is moved further from the steering box, pulling the pitman arm to one side. The draglink needs lengthened to recenter steering wheel.

I would get a professional alignment and be sure to tell them to recenter the steering wheel.

X2; same thing happened when I installed the lift, and the alignment corrected it.

it tracks fine down the road like the alignment is fine. Granted i havent taken it to a shop but i will, been laid off so money is tight but time is all good. just wondered if i could correct the problem myself. thanx for the input guys.

I agree with BH, the steering wheel alignment has nothing to do with caster, or camber for than matter. With 4" of lift I would look into an adjustable Track bar to reposition the axle center to the chassis. Secondly like was said the drag link needs to be lengthened to correct your steering wheel issue after the axle is back in the proper position.
After reading your are laid off, then try adjusting the drag link first before spending the money to an adjustable track bar. Remember just because it tracks fine going down a road does not mean the alignment is correct.

The toe-in on a TJ changes after a lift also, so even though it tracks okay you will get excessive tire wear and possible problems with handling unless it is aligned. It is possible to recenter the steering wheel yourself and adjust for proper toe-in.

Mine was around $150~$180, but I would get as many free alignments as I wanted for 3 years, which I used often, because I installed the lift, then I put the dropped pitman arm, then I took OFF the dropped pitman arm because of the JKS adjustable trackbar, then installed the shims, then took off the shims, etc etc etc (so overall, I got about 8 or 10 alignments, which means about $10 each)
