I am in the process of replacing my steering system and I cannot for the life of me get the drag link to separate from the pitman arm. Any tips is much appreciated. I have the puller but there is no amount of force I can apply will get it off. HELP! My rig is down till I fix this.

a wise mechanic once told me when dealing with steering components, the bigger the hammer the better.

I've found you can tap on the arm and sometimes it helps loosen the tie rod end. When all else fails BFH.

I have found that a good hammer just about fixes...or destroys...anything you have on a jeep!

Job done. Soaked it in wd40 all night. Banged on it some more and popped off and the puller pinballed around the garage. It was really on there. Anyway here is the stubborn part. Looks really bent and mangled. The bottom one is the new setup from curry

WD40 is not a very good penetrating oil, try PB Blaster.

In the future, grab a 3lb sledge and hit the side of the pitman arm hole where the TRE goes through, at a 90º angle to the TRE. This temporarily egg-shapes the hole and the tapered TRE will pop right out. Works great on anything tapered like balljoints as well.

You are the second one I have heard that from. Unfortunately the second one since done. I will keep in mind for the future. Thanks for the info.
