so i am having a NASTY time trying to get the a.c. pump {a.c. in a jeep ?} disconnected from it's bracket. i want to rebuild it so i can turn it into a on-boad air set up but i can't get the bottom two bolts out. the nuts are off but the bolts WILL NOT budge. i tried wrenching 'em with a 1/2'' drive breaker bar but that did'nt work. tried tappin on the end with a hammer to try to free it up but that did'nt work. using a bigger 1/2 '' drive 12point socket was a tight fit under the pump pullys, so to gain a slightly better fit i would like to remove them. anyone know how i can get them to stop free-spinning so i can remove the center nut ? better yet, someone tell me what's going on with those freakin bolts before i fire up the cutting torch!!!!![addsig]

i understood you to say that the bolts wouldn't budge, then you add they're free spinning. what are they doing?

not to be silly, but are you certain that all the nuts are off? hey, this happens.

if they're stuck, it may very well be the steel bolt has fused itself in the hole from corosion. if so, use penetrating oil and get out your torch and heat up the area - not cherry red, just enough to ensure that oil worked its way around the bolt. then you tap, not pound, the bolt head, not threads. this will jar the bolt many times and often assists the oil get around the bolt.

once that's all done you should be able to turn the bolt. if you can't, keep working it. it will come out. the trick is to minimize the damage as you do this.

the bolts for the mounting bracket are'nt spinning, the center nut for the pump is. i tried penetrating oil on the bolts but to no avail. when i was hitting the bolts i was'nt hitting directly on the threads , i did have the nuts loosely on the end to protect the threads. . since hitting the bolts was'nt working , i thought i would try to free them up by turning them with a socket. a 3/8 drive combo did'nt budge 'em so i was going to try a 1/2 drive combo but the pump pullys come down close enough to the bolt head that the socket won't fit perfect and i did'nt want to strip the bolthead so i thougt i would take the pullys off the pump, but they just spin when i turn the center nut. i was wondering how to get them to stop so i could turn the center nut to remove them . but you'r probably right and i should of heated the darn thing up and saved myself alot of agravation. funny how something so simple can sometimes get the best of ya , it's all part of the JEEP adventure right ?[addsig]
