okay... so its been a while since i posted but i thought i'd try this again... i'm trying to mount a sanden type compressor in my jeep - none of the aftermarket sites have a kit for it - turns out the 89 4.2 w/serp. belt was pretty rare - as its a california emission jeep - but i was wondering if the cherokees (or any other) came with the 4.2/serp setup... hoping to widen my scope of searching... not trying to install a/c - i need it for the onboard air compressor setup... any ideas? anyone out there have my setup? someone mentioned modifying (sp?) the idler bracket to mount the compressor but i dont want to hack up what i have now...
any ideas would be appreciated...
thanks!

Did you ever figure this out?

I see that you aren't in CA anymore - could you just remove the CA smog stuff and make space for the mounting?

The Cherokee had serpentine belts back to '88 or '87, but it was on a 4.0L with a slightly different accessory configuration. I'd contact Kilby Enterprises, maybe ask on their forum, I'm sure somebody has come across this.

no real progress - work limits my time looking - and as for removing the ca emissions - here in las vegas we still have to pass smog each year (which i barely pass as it is....) otherwise it would all be off it... and i'll check kilby again - i contacted them for a kit b/4 and they were the ones that told me i can make a bracket for a york type compr. that will fit on the idler bracket - i'm still just a little hesitant to hack what i've got... i'll keep looking tho... thanks again!

In Virginia we have smog as well, unless your vehicle is 20 years old, then you can get antique plates - they are a one time fee of $40, and you never have to do inspection or smog again (although there are some driving limitations). Your YJ will be 20 in 2 months - anything like that in LV?

i'll have to dig into it = anything 1967 or older is exempt - they dont do the sliding scale here (even tho they do in calif. - funny how we're backwards here but more $$ for the county...)
