99 wrangler tj

hi, i have a 99 wrangler tj 4 cyl. tried starting yesterday, needed to keep my foot on the gas or it would stall. running real rough. when it did stall the check engine light came on.
got it started again seem to run ok could take foot off gas,
but the engine light is still on. today the light is still on,and runs ok. does anyone know what this could be? im out of work and cant bring to a mech. thanks

I have a 97 TJ 4 cyl. and every once in a while I get impatient and don't let it crank long enough to fire, then I have to try again and sometimes I have to put my foot on the gas to get it to start and keep it running if I start driving it after that it will be fine if I keep my foot on the gas, after it warms up it's ok. As for the check engine light you can disconnect the battery and I usually touch the battery leads together when they are disconnected, just to make sure and that will clear the code, if the light comes back on you may have a problem. You can check the codes by cycling the key 3 times in 5 seconds I believe and the odometer will give you the codes.

Check the all the sensors (IAS, MAP, TPS, etc.) and make sure all of them are connected. Had this happen to me some time ago and it was an unplugged IAS.
