new to site and would like to say hi to all.
after reading some, i decided to ask a few q's that i couoldnt already answer.

i have the jeep shimmy (almost positive its a rim as i dont have a lift, and the steering and alignment was just checked...what is the max backspacing you can fit? widest rims? (ive seen 15x10's but dont want any rub) i will most likely go with used cherokee or G.C. rims (years of fit would be nice, also do liberty rims fit?) mainly loking at 16x7's or 15x7's

my defrost stopped working, i have it rigged with a wire to hold the vent open (always running) but was wondering if anyone else had problems with vaccuum problems when switching between vents (all levels of blower work).

#1 concern...SEATS, im 6'3 and 210 lbs and my seat is blown out. after 6 years of me sitting there, it leans heavily to the center as i lean to put my elbow on the console. few things....
1. will Grand Cherokee seats fit? width comparable?
2. hopw hard is it to move the seats back a few inches (move the bracket, or make a new one??
3. what is needed to upgrade to power seats? is it too much work/ money?
4. where can i get a cool pad/ soft storage to put on center console to prevent the lean in the future.

thx

welcome to the board... sorry i cant help wioth thwe questions thoug.. FYI.. the GC is wider than the XJ, so i dont know about the seats fitting.... you could move the brackets back if you're handy with tools though

Hi,

Do all the other vent positions work? If so, Suspect a faulty vaccum motor on the defrost damper or a cracked vacuum line to that motor. If none of the dampers are working (meaning the air isn't coming out of the right places in all positions), then I'd suspect a crack in the vacuum supply line, cracked vacuum reservoir, or a faulty Climate Control head.

Hope that Helps

You might be able to fix your seat... I am a little bigger than you and the bolt that holds the seat to the riser had pulled through the steel of the seat. I kept tipping in on turns and such. I took the seat out and discovered this damage, so I just flattened it out with pliers, and got a couple big washers and used JB Weld to bond them to either side of the hole. It has held for a little over a year and was cheaper than a new seat. A word of caution (or advice): I forgot to disconnect the wires that go to the seat belt for the sensor to show that you put your belt on. I yanked it pretty hard, and now it doesn't work. I think its an upgrade since I don't get that idiot light and bell anymore.

The first thing I check when I have the shimmy is balance, it´s easy to check the rims on the balance machine while your at it. I´ve lost more than a few wheel wieghts. The second is front axle U-joints.
I´ve got the stock 16X7, Jeep late model, five spoke rims on the wifes 95. Standard offset. Not exotic, but nice, looks clean. The 16 inch rims and a 70 series tire, seems to handle some better than the 15 inch rim and the same tire in a 75 and is the same 28"(or so) tire just less sidewall.
