97 wranger oxygen sensors

My check engine light came on and indicated a code 21, oxygen sensor problem. I have changed both sensors and have tried resetting the computer by unhooking the battery for a few minutes. The engine error code keeps coming back. Do I need to have the Dealer reset the emmisions timer or is there a way for me to do it my self? Need advice, please.

check the computer code again you might have another problem like a clog air filter. you didn't say how many miles you have on it? when was the last time it had a , tune up? if that checks out all i can sugest is to go to the dealer to have them look at it.

Bob, This JEEP has about 96K, Just tuned-up last month. Light first came on when I was loading down the engine driving against the wind one day.

You can get the digital odometer to display an error code by turning your ignition switch from off to accessory position three times quickly leaving the key in the accessory position the last time. The display will go blank for a short time then will flash a two digit code, 55 is end of codes. You can find these codes on some of the message boards if not i can email them to you.

Thanks for the info.... I really appreciate it! I'm finding out that the folks who own Jeeps are a breed of very helpful people. The light has gone out after being on for about a day, but if it comes on again I know what to do now!

Did this problem ever get resolved. I'm currently having the same problem on a 97 Cherokee. The light comes on (with a code 21) and when my mechanic resets the code and checks the sensors they both are operating normally. How did you solve your problem?
