where can I get info on an 89 waggoneer? I have looked on the www, for a while, but cant find what Im looking for.

I just bought some D44s from an 89 wagoneer and want the specs on them, I cant get ahold of the seller, and dont have them yet to see for myself. So any info, or where to look would be great.

splines F&R, Is the front locking or vacuum?, width, spring perch locations... I will need to order driveshafts F&R I believe so it would be nice to be able to budget...

thanks again

RE: f-L-e-X questions

Check out www.ifsja.org .

An '89 has a D44 front with driver's side diff, with either a D44 or HDAMC20 rear axle. The rear axle could have an offset diff if the SJ had the Quadratrac 4wd.

The 89s came with offset rear diffs? I didn't know they had a Tcase then that was offset, which NP case were they calling Quadratrac at that time?

Bounty, since we are on the subject.....which SJ front D44s had the disconnect? was it 83-84, or did it cover more years?

I'm not sure which years the Quadratrac was offered, or which years came with the vacuum disconnect. The IFSJA site wasn't too clear on the subject. Not sure which year my CAD D44 came from.

hoobness, if you can find an early '90s Isuzu Amigo you can get a rear D44 with disc brakes and the same SJ 6-lug wheel pattern. Mine is from a '93.

RE: Tread Lightly Master Trainer available

thaks guys, the guy I bought the pair of D44s from says there shouldnt be much of an issue - I dont even need to move spring perches if I dont want to... Im not sure what to believe, I want it to be a DD the way it is now, just tougher. Not sure about the vacuum discon? Ill just make the haul on over there and see for myself. Then my questyions here will be more solid. I know I want to regear them to like 4.10 for my 33s as well as overhaul them with new bearings & seals since Ill have em apart.
The Amigo idea is a good one, IM gonna shop around. (Boy when I go to get brakes at NAPA Ill be listing off all these cars, mayber Ill get a volume discount cuz theyll think Im a shop! :) )
WHen It comes to getting driveshafts, are they basically the same, should I try to score the ones from the SJ?

THanks

RE: Rough Country spring height????

I can't remember the specifics, but there is something about shortening the front SJ shaft for use in the back of a SWB. I've never done it, but it seems to have been a popular thing to do at one time around here.

You will have to move the perches.. the CAD was offered from 84-91, and from 75-91 all front FSJ D44's were driver side diff.
All brake parts carry the same spicer part # as the GM parts from a 72-75 P/U

Gearing... hehe gears as hi as 2.08:1 all the way up to 3.54:1 But 4.10:1 were available in the J20 P/U which shares the same Open knuckle front end, and center diff D44 rear!

Re: RE: Re: 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited For Sale

The SJs went to the drivers side front diff in 80.

So, the CAD went all the way up to the end of production in 91? I didn't think it was used but for a couple of years :? Which transfer case(s) was it used with?

Re: RE: combat advice

thanks, BTW,
If that is what Im dealing with (CAD - find out thursday) can I just swap in some solid axles from another vehicle or aftermarket source (superior for example), add some hub locks.. and then put a metal plate over where the vacuum motor was?

Or - are the D44 CAD axles relativly strong... (wait til they break)

RE: Best 6 or 6.5 Lift for 94 sport xj?

I've seen no weak CAD setups, even the D30 CAD has larger shafts and splines than the rest of the shaft. It's main problem lies in reliability of the vacuum engagement, which is often fixed with a cable setup to engage the axleshaft. The large benefit to a CAD is that you can weld the front diff or run a spool and disengage the one axleshaft in order for the spool to be transparent when in 2wd. It's a poor man's selectable locker, and how I've ran my D30 for several years now.

The D44 CAD is integrated into the diff cover, and you could run non-CAD axleshafts as long as you could find axle seals that would work with the non-CAD axleshafts in a CAD housing.

I purposely sought out the CAD D44 and will be running it someday in my YJ.

INteresting.
Ive had the posi lok setup in my YJ for years now, worked great got it cuz my vacuum lines broke and it was recomennded that I went with that insead of fixing the vacuum setup.
Will the D30 posilok I have now be transferable to my new D44 if its CAD?

You might be able to make the cable setup work on the 44, the vacuum motor is on the diff cover and moved toward the other end of the axle.
