New to the forum, and the Jeep world!
My wife has wanted a jeep forever. I found this little money pit at a truck dealership. The bodywork had been done, but not neccessarily that well. Lots of bondo and poor repair techniques.

Right away, gas tank began leaking. Brakes lights stopped working. Intermittent starting problems, and the list goes on.

I got the gas tank on order and a Ron Francis wiring kit. So I will be busy this weekend.

Anyhow I put some pics up that show a new blower versus the old one. The new blower motor has 2 wires coming from it.

The old motor several more. Oreilys insists this is the right one. What gives? I have a fan switch that has high and low speeds.

Look forward to being part of the community!

I think your old blower motor is out of something else. If I recall, my CJ only had two wires going to the motor. There is a resistor on the heater box that "makes" the speeds. You should find that some of the wires from the switch go to the resistor. If you are changing the entire wiring harness the new one should have the right plugs to make it all work. Nice Jeep, very classic. -John

The wiring diagram I have for the "75 shows 2 wires from the blower switch to the motor(one red one orange) & a ground. The ground may be thru the mounting bolt.As Crazey4Diesels said the resister is in the switch(to "make the speeds")
Also the 3rd picture you posted is the starter relay.I suspect the PO wired the heater switch to draw voltage from there instead of the fuse block. The heater should be fused. Hope that helps!! I'm not familar with Ron Francis wiring kits, but I would expect it will come with decent instructions & diagrams.

Thanks for the quick replies! You confirmed what I had thought-PO installed "some kind of motor" from something else.

The PO must have had lots of problems that they never fixed correctly or even at all. The heater core was not hooked up. I assume that it is bad, so I went and replaced that as well..

I love to do body and mechanics, just really not on something just off the car lot:x

Oh well another vehicle project!

BTW... You do see that the right angle connector on your starter relay is barely on there. It will get replaced when you do the new harness BUT in the mean time it could cause some intermittant grief. Best of luck with the Jeep - keep us all posted on your progress -John

I am about 6 hours into this electrical install. Most of that time has been just routing wires and getting everything in place.

I made a steel patch and attached the fuse box to it. Then I bolted it into the area of the stock fuseblock, bulkhead.

I am a bit confused on how to hook up the engine compartment, namely the ignition component.

The tech at Ron Francis is not familiar with the electronic ignition of this jeep (neither am I), and Ron is out until possibly tommorrow. So here I sit!

First of all, are these pictures of the prestolite electronic ignition? There are 2 long wires coming out of it that I assume would be the pickup coil wires? They have been spliced together at one point and used DUCT tape to insulate it?

Another picture is from under the dash near the defroster duct to the right of the steering column. Is this a resistor?

I wished this had a HEI ignition. This would be so much simpler!

Last question is that black box that says MOTOROLA the module?

Help me out guys!

I just ordered a new HEI style distributor for the 304. For 90 bucks and upgraded system it just seemed easier.

Looking at the one wire alternator as well. I know what is said about not charging at low speed, but this is more of a toy for the wife. Mostly pavement with maybe playing a little in the snow and mud. Thanks!

The thing you found under the dash looks like a crossover or filter for the radio (probably not stock). The resistor is in the side of the heater box (look for a tan bakelite or phenolic flat thing on the outside of the heater box near the passenger side. It should have at least three wires going to it - mounts with a couple of screws) . Did the wires from the Motorola unit go to the alternator? You have a Jeep that falls in the time period when they used Motorola alternators and external solid state regulators, I believe. Best of luck - John
