35's...

I've been reconsidering a few planned modifications to my CJ, and was wondering, what's the fastest you would want to go with 35's on a CJ7? It will have 58" wide scout axles, a sway bar, RE suspension with shackle reversal, rancho rs9000 shocks, and agr steering...maybe even a trac bar if it needs it, so it should handle pretty well for a CJ with 35's. I was wondering b/c I've never driven a CJ with 35's, or even a CJ with good suspension and steering for that matter, and if I won't be going that fast (I'm a pretty speedy driver, but I can change if I must:(, then I will be gearing the Jeep lower for better performance. So, numbers anyone?

fast as you want in a straight line - its those pesky little emergency avoidance maneuvers and "oops! theres my turn" things that will cause the most problems.... seriously - hiway speeds (legal) will probably be okay... you just have to anticipate your turns and watch the offramp speed postings (and minus 5mph - like i do in my jeep and my semi....) mostly - get a feel for how it handles and act accordingly - and responsibly (i.e. - not "speedy") - "with great lift and articulation comes great responsibility" (okay... i made that one up!) instructions for your project: build it... enjoy it.... break it... fix it.... and repeat

It all kind of depends on the CJ, I've driven ones that are set up nearly identical but handle completely different; some Jeeps are just rolling deathtraps.

The secret is to make a cage the will allow the jeep to roll back onto its wheels after the emergency maneuver

I think what I'll do is install the axles w/o rebuilding or regaring them (they have either 3.55 or 3.71, I can't remember) and bolt on my 32's. If the Jeep feels safe cruising at 80mph, I'll go with 4.56...if it doesn't feel safe at that speed or doesn't go that speed, I'll go with 4.88.

any SWB vehicle wont feel "safe" at 80MPH - gearing notwithstanding .... your enginge rev's wont have any affect on how twitchy a jeep feels at 80.... my advice... slow down.. dont be in a hurry to die... mother nature ensures you will eventually anyway... dont help her along!
