will a 31" fit on the stock spare tire carrier? if not, as anyone come up w/ a fab bracket that will make it?

Yes, it will fit. I cut those rubber spacer things in half (the ones on the tub) to get the tire in closer to the body and a little more thread on the bolts. Just take them off, cut them in half with a hacksaw, and put them back on.

Mine fit without any alteration at all.

I'll second that! Don't know what year you have, but mine's an '03. 31 fit fine, no alteration ('tho it's pretty snug against the cyclops brake light). Had to trim the rubber things on Mudwoman's '94 YJ. Works pretty good (and cheap) if that's the situation you've got.

My 31" spare fit on my YJ with no trimming or adjustments, but I'll agree, it's still pretty dang snug up under the cyclops light.

you can fit up to 32" tire on a TJ, if you take the rear bumper off and put spacers under the brake light, you can fit a 33, but this will prematurly fatigue your tail gate hinges and they will sag.
