I need new tail lights for my 88 yj I know that every year from 87 - 97 use the same tail lights with the same style connector. 98-?? use a single plug type connector that is uncompatiable with the old tail light connectors.

However on ebaymotors.com I found these 2002 tailights off a tj that look identical to the ones on my 88 yj including the connector.

If anyone knows if thise will work please let me know.

Here is a pic of the ebay taillights I want

I don't know if they will have the same plugs or not.... but you can use them anyways.

You'll have 3 - 5 wires coming to the rear lights:
> Backup light hot
> Tail light hot
> Brake Hot
> Turn Signal Hot
> Ground

(the brake and turn signal may share a wire, and the ground may be conducted straight to the chassis)

So, if the connectors don't fit, take the connectors from your old lights and splice them to the new lights... shouldn't be too difficult but a multimeter or a test light is an invaluble tool when doing electrical work
