2000 TJ Stiff Ride

Hey, new to the board,,,,,,,,,,,,looking forward to hanging out with ya'll.

I just bought a 2000 TJ with a 4" rough country suspension lift and a 3" body lift with 35 x 12.5 GY Wranglers.

The ride is pretty stiff. What are your thoughts on attempting to smooth it out a bit as the majority of my use will be on road.

Where do I start....don't want to throw good money after bad.

Take care and thanks in advance.

i'd think the area to look in is springs and shocks..

not sure how stiff rough country springs are..what type of shock ya got on?

Well to start off is the length of your lower control arms.
If I am not mistaken you have a short arm kit. That is the first problem, the shorts arms at 4 inches of lift are sitting at a 45 degree or so, transferring a lot of road vibration into your frame and tub.

The fix here to get smaller springs or change your short arm to a long arm.
Each has benefits and draw backs. But as a bias owner of a long arm kit I would say get a long arm kit and enjoy a better than factory ride at four inches or more. A good six inch lift will allow you to remove the 3 inches of body lift and still clear those 35" monsters.

Rough Country is not known for being a rough ride, from what I've seen. What shock are you running?

TC is right that the control arms have a lot to do with ride quality, the longer and more horizontal arms ride better.

Thanks again for your help guys.

You are right, took it to the local 4WD joint, guy took a ride with me and said it feels perfect. Must be me..........new to jeeps.

So far it has been a blast, hard to stay out of it.

OK, so, for all that have gone before me..........what do I need next!!!!!!

2000 TJ Sport, 4" susp lift, 3" body, 35 x 12.5, soft top. Will be used 95% road, 5% off, maybe even more road than that.

What will make it look even better?

Thanks in advance, take care.

My TJ rides fine, I just wish I could loosen up my XJ a bit. I think I will give it more time since the lift has only been on it since Nov.

Here are two, front and back, although not a great.

Take care, and thanks for the ideas.

What do I do next???
