i have a 1988 jeep cherokee with the 4.0l engine. it has alot of blow by and i go through about a quart of oil every 2 to 3 days. i have replaced the hoses on the top and my local parts supplier said there wasnt a pcv valve. i dont have the money to get another motor and i really like my jeep. is there anything cheat i can do, is there another engine(maybe bigger)that i can put in easily, or does anyone out there have a cheap, good motor????

Have you checked the condition of the CCV system? It will blow oil into the airbox if it's clogged and flowing backwards, very common.

Find the hose from the valve cover to the airbox. Pull it at the airbox end and see if it is sucking air (vacuum) into the valve cover. If it has vacuum, the CCV is operating correctly. If it's blowing air, chances are the CCV is flowing in reverse and blowing oil and crankcase vapors into the airbox.

Find the smaller hose from the valve cover to the intake manifold. Pull it off the valve cover end and see if it's sucking air into the intake manifold like it should be.

do you have a LOT of bluish-gray smoke coming out of you exhaust whenever the jeep is running? if so, then your piston rings are probably shot. granted thats still a lot of oil consumption, but not so uncommon on higher mileage vehicles. keep us posted

it doesnt smoke at all. i havent had the chance to check anything yet. the only thing it does is blows oil into the air filter and it gets every where.
