You have what is arguably the worse transmission ever found in a jeep.

no argument here. it is the worst transmission ever. I didn't know how to spell Peugeot BA 10/5. It will cost more to rebuilt (if you can even find someone to do it) then a reman ax-15. Just drive it til it blows then replace everything. SIDE NOTE: the T/C is a np 207 w/21spl and will not fit the ax-15 23spl output. get a np231 (or better the 241o..rubicon 4-1) T/C

I had the Peugeot BA10/5 in my '88 YJ and it was still running strong at 125,000 miles, even behind a mildly built 350. Don't listen to all the naysayers, don't replace it if it's not giving you any problems. Run it like it is.

Having said that, if you're interested in an engine swap I would go ahead and replace it rather than spend money on an adapter bellhousing like I did.

have the same crapy trany, after i put my lift kit on it, my trans is grinding when i put it in reverse and kicks out

Have you checked your transmission mount? My transmission ground a lot, too before a new mount, however, mine never slipped out of gear. Maybe it is just a scrap transmission. It wouldn't hurt to check, though.

The most common cause of Grinding Gears after a lift installation is the lack of clearance on the gearshift boot opening. the shifter would bottom out on the body before it bottoms out on the Transmission Gear sleeve.

Yup. Is that the case with your jeep?

Oh, no. I have a 3 in. suspension lift now. I had a junk transmission mount. I bought a new one, and it's fine now. I may miss it, though. It was kind of funny when someone was riding with me and all of a sudden, "GRAAAAP". Then they'd get this befuddled look on their face like, "What was that?!"
