I just got the kit with all the bearings etc to overhaul my front diff; I think it's a Dana 30 (its stock and a 3.55 gear is all I know for sure at this point)
Its been roaring like a bad pinion bearing for a bit and (once I get done re roofing my house) I plan to tear into my front diff; all new bearings and seals; anything different from, say, a rear D35 or a Mopar 8-1/4, that I need to beware of? It cost me dang close to the same as a replacement diff out of a 'yard for a replacement, I just finished replacing the 4 link bushings, so I think I'd rather rebuild what I have so I know I won't be swapping this twice on account of the 'yard getting me another bum unit.
Same price to have all new guts=better deal IMHO. I've done Mopar 8-1/4s, Dana 44s (GC'S with the D44 are known for bum bearings) but never a front diff. I have my own 15 ton hydraulic press as well;
My main worry is crush sleeve/preload setup, etc.
this is on my wife's daily driver. Only time it gets 4 wheeled is during the Illinois winters.
