    !*&$#$@ Fender Flares

The heat gun is the best way to revive TJ flares, if you put in the effort and take the time to do it right. Clean them REALLY well, go slow, and make even passes.

    YJ Ideas

I agree with leaving them square. That's the way a YJ is supposed to be. As far as what looks better, I know guys that have put YJ front clips on CJs... different people like different stuff. Round is cooler? Yeah, before 1987. Chrysler slapping round lights on the creampuff TJ just to cash in...

    Transmission shot

It should be a Borg Warner T150 three speed, which was the standard transmission in 76-79 232, 258, and 304 powered Jeeps. It's a small cast iron cased three speed with a 2.99:1 first gear. They hold up okay to the 304, they just don't like aggressive shifting. There is no perfect bolt-up...

    Corvette power

Yeah, what gen engine is it? Any of them could be slid in there, but pre-LS engines would be the easiest, and you might run into a few little issues with an LT... Is this going to be a trail oriented Jeep or more for showing off and just having fun on flat ground? Sounds interesting either...

    Jeep Ignition question

Yep, HEI rules. I talked the guy into going with a D.U.I.(Davis Unified Ignition) for the last 258 we did, and that was a really nice setup. The DUI comes with a nice cap, a really nicely machined and finished housing/body, a performance module, 50,000V coil, pre-curved for your setup... it's...

    swap or not???

I'm not really that big of an AMC fan rooster, I just know the potential of these engines. I'm actually a Chevy fan as far as cars go, and they have been churning out the best smallblock V8s since 1955... The thing is, an engine can be setup a multitude of different ways to perform in...

    swap or not???

That's how most people feel Dave. I'm the sick SOB that likes to pull up beside you in a similar Jeep, with what sounds like a pack of angry Harley Davidsons under the hood, and proceed to pull you by 3-4 Jeep lengths by the time you hit third. The bigger and lesser built engines are more...

    swap or not???

Depends on what you expect out of it when it's finished as well as how you plan to go about performing the swap. I try to discourage as many people as possible from doing non-AMC V8 engine swaps into inline 6 equipped Jeeps. I've shut many V8s down with the AMC sixes I used to run in my CJs...

It's that time of year again - Hardtop appreciation thread!

I've owned a couple of CJs with hardtops, and my current 77 has one on it. The hardtops are nicer from a comfort standpoint, but a good quality soft top isn't much worse overall. I always bought the cheaper tops for my CJs, like the BestTop Tiger Top, and never really liked them. Then I bought a...

Help !! #6 Rod knocking after very low oil

You starved the bearings when you let it run out of oil, ad now you probably have excessive bearing clearances and the "rod knock" that comes with it. At best, you need a new set of rod and main bearings when a rod knock starts to creep up... but you probably skipped right over the best case...

Mod's for getting low end power

Since his username is "49 Willy", I'm guessing this swap is being done to a 49 Willys. He is probably talking about a V6 swap, since they fit better in the older Jeeps. If so, I would suggest a later(like 1985 or so and up) Chevrolet 4.3L 90 degree V6. It's a larger displacement V6 with a...

    power steering...

There's really no other reason for it to quit working like that, and then resume working afterwards, other than a slipping belt.

    honest opinion

Tube fenders look sweet sitting over 4"+ of lift and some aggressive tires, but on a relatively stock Jeep... it probably wouldn't look too bad, but there are so many better ways to spend that money on a YJ. If you could make them yourself then I would say go for it, and then post pics. I...

    The 401 will live again!!

The good news: A few years ago I parted out a 74 IH Travelall to get the drivetrain from it, which is an AMC 401 V8, Torqueflight 727, and a Dana 60 semi-float rear. The engine had sat in the truck without a carb on it since the eighties(estimate by me and the original owners family), but the...

    I'm a real jeep now :)

One of my wife's friends just bought a new Wrangler, and she drove it to my daughter's birthday party a few weeks ago. I didn't really care for them at all, but after walking around hers and then looking at the interior, I began to see why people who might not have been completely happy with the...

    CJ-7 exhaust rebuild

I understand the whole thing about wanting to do it himself even though he doesn't have a welder, but it wouldn't cost much at all to take it to a local machine shop and pay to have them TIG welded on. You'll have a hard time keeping those SS mufflers clamped tightly to any mild steel...

    Miss me?

Yeah Bounty, the newbie shoe fits, so I guess I'll wear it. I'm no traitor, I still have the TJ and the old CJ is tucked away until I can get back to it, although now it's going to get lowered a little and it will probably be rolling on 35s the next time it sees the light of day. Nice Utah...
