    engine swap question

Rick, below I put a link in to the engine I just put in a few months ago. I thought my 258 was pretty worn out as well. I got myself a brand spankin' new NV3550 transmission and this... 87-90 Jeep 258 / Jeep 4.2 Engine (Part #: JEEP-258LB-6) I was able to get all of that crazy wiring, tubing...

Gas smell when I slow down

Gents, my 89 4.2 is running great, but it's giving off a strong gas smell when I slow down. Any thoughts?

If you just did it to your passenger door, than take the panel off your driver side door to get a look at what right looks like.

There are no stupid questions, right?

Problem solved! It was behind the instrument cluster like ya'll said. For those of you who don't know, there's, for lack of a better term, a flexable circuit board behind the gauge cluster. There was one spot on it where the internal lines of this circuit board had corroded away two of the...

There are no stupid questions, right?

Thanks guys...all good stuff, I'll give it a try this weekend and let you know what happens. And Scott, thanks for the heads up. If I do pee in my pants this weekend, hopefully it'll be Coors Light's fault.

There are no stupid questions, right?

Yeah, but there are inquisitive idiots. Any way, my stupid question is, does anyone know how to make my clock work on my 89? I swear the damn thing works when it wants to, and for no particular reason. Also, and much more interesting...my oil pressure gauge still isn't working. I replaced the...

Jeep dies when any lights come on

Gents….this post is purely to help anyone out in the future that hits the search for the same problem I recently had. Issue: It began with the engine starting to buck real hard and then die after I would drive it for about a mile or two. The only way I could keep it running was to keep the...

    Soft top doors

I know what you're talking about. They're called "superdoors" and Bestop makes them. I've only seen them sold as a set though (upper and lower together). You'd have to do some looking around on the internet to find the uppers seperate. If you've got the superdoors, then there's two tube openings...

Telltale signs of a bad 8.8?

I just got back from a local junk yard and spotted a mid-90's two door Ford Explorer with a 4.0L. The guy says he'd sell me the rear 8.8 axle for $175, but that sounded pretty low to me. Can anyone tell me any of the outward signs that this might be a bad idea to grab this thing? I'd like to...

    Strange steering problem

Resolution found! There were two problems, and ya'll can fight over which one was the problem. The tow was way off and in too far, and the pitman arm bolt was not all the way tightened down. Once both things were corrected the problem was gone. I believe the tow being so far off was making it...

    Strange steering problem

The wierd thing is that it's changing the steering wheel position after EVERY bump...no matter the size. So at one point, straight ahead will mean you need to have the steering wheel at 1 o'clock, then you hit another bump and straight ahead becomes 3 o'clock, hit another and your at 11...

    Strange steering problem

Sorry....it's a late model TJ sahara, but I'm not sure of the year, with a 4.0.

    Strange steering problem

My buddy came to me today with a problem, and I’ll throw it up here and wee what ya’ll think. When he’s driving down the road and hits a bump it turns the wheel like a typical bump steer problem. However, the steering wheel doesn’t go back to center, but the Jeep keeps going forward with...

    31X10.50r15 BFGs w/ rims $400

I have five 31x10.50R15 All-Terrain T/A's with rims that are looking for a good home. They have tons of tread on them, at least 90%, and the only reason I took them off was to put on 33's when I could afford the build up. Buyer would have to agree to pay shipping plus $400 for the tires and rims...

    Complete Lift?

you could go with an "add a leaf" system. Black Diamond sells theirs on quadratec for $310.99, and it's a 2" lift for your year. Here's the link: Black Diamond 2" Add-A-Leaf Suspension Lift Kit for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ - Quadratec An SOA sounds cheap when you first look at it, but it gets...

    YJ Termostat

that is a pretty low temp. if i had to guess i'd say that you have a low temp thermostat in there, probably in the 140 range. pull that out and drop in a 180 and you'll see a big difference. real low cost and easy to do too.
