YJ Fuel Guage Problems

I have a 1993 YJ 4.0L. My fuel guage doesn't work...it stops at 1/2 tank when it is empty. I know of a few other people with the same problem. I've been told that most jeeps that have gone off-road have the same problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this or any aftermarket sending units?[addsig]

I had the same problem in my 90 YJ and trassed it down to a cruddy contact on the back of the gauge to the contact strip. Short usually means needle stays on empty, open circuit usually means gauge stays on full. Anything in between usually means faulty sender, gauge or connection. These gauges are trouble shot the same as GM gauges. Most years.[addsig]

I know what you're talking about, I have the same problem and I know of someone else in my 4wheel club with the same problem. My fuel guage works when it is full but stops at half tank and won't go any lower. I've been told it's very common in the YJ's and I'm surprised someone hasn't come up with a solution. It's not a bad connection, it's a problem with the sending unit inside the fuel tank is what I've been told. If you find a way to fix this or find anyway around it, let me know.....Anyone else with this problem?[addsig]

Yeah Jake, I have the same issue. The gauge on my '93 YJ stoppes just under 1/8 of a tank. From there it's luck and prayers. I've looked everywhere for a replacement sending unit, but none to be found (except Daimler Chrystler). Anyone found a site or store?

you'd have better luck finding people with working gas guages then faulty ones, they're pretty much all that way, its just a jeep thing...haha[addsig]
